About the FlyGoneBy project

Every once in a while the time comes around to have a big clear-out, and every time I've gotten better at letting stuff go; piles of old computer magazines, obsolete technology, stuff that 'might be valuable/useful one day', etc. With every subsequent thinning of clutter the criteria for what was worth keeping got narrower (seriously, I'm down to only 5 Amiga computers in my loft). One box that always made the cut was the collection of 46 issues of the Plymouth Poltechnic (Polytechnic Soutwest) student magazine "Fly". I kept them simply because I've every reason to believe that they're the only surviving copies in existence, and that they are important not only from the point of view of the orginal readers and contributers, but also as a historical social document.

Scanning the magazine has been a bit of a challenge. I scanned the first issue on my own home A4 multi-function printer, and it took me about 40 minutes to scan plus around 20 minutes to re-orientate the images in Photoshop. Fortunatly, I now (sometimes) have access to a professional Canon copier that can scan both sides of a stack of A3 sheets which speeds things up considerably. I'll upload the issues I've already scanned, and will aim to get at least one issue a week uploaded - I'll release it on a Friday as per the original publication (if I recall correctly!).

I've created both a twitter account and a facebook group, so keep an eye on them to see when new content becomes available.
